Blue Love

Posted on February 19, 2015

There are three things that give me great happiness on frigid Toronto days: hot tea in tall beautiful mugs, a huge grey knit sweater, and shooting something that warms me from the inside. The colder it gets, the less clothing my models end up wearing… and Ksenia is the closest thing to summer in Paris right now. Some magical humans got together for this one.

Model Behavior

Three cheers for this one. This gorgeous girl has a face that cuts right through hard light and then pummels it to the ground. The lovely Miss Sarah I found through a wonderful group of artists. Being able to work with such a solid team consistently is such a privilege. You learn every single day – and you push eachother hard.

With Alison Sharp on Makeup, and Lisa Tuff on hair – her platinum looks (and locks) came to life. Many thanks to all of you for coming together on a rainy day to make something yummy.

Abandoned Shoots

Posted on May 6, 2014

Revisiting some trips to abandoned buildings last year, I found this gem of a shoot I had completely forgotten to blog. Dear Sara is a filmmaker, and a good pal of mine. I took this hardworking lady out for some fancying up at the hair salon, grabbed some dress samples, and threw her in a haunted house. (Legitimately, we believe). Fresh cigarettes kept wafting up to our noses, despite being the only ones there, and a general heaviness followed us everywhere we went. Neither one of us went in one of the rooms- despite it being completely lit, and perfectly happy looking (except for one lone mattress). It just had a baaaaad feeling. Let’s just say we couldn’t get out of there fast enough. Despite being torn down to make room for the highway, the house will live on here.katherine holland photography

Tis the season…

Posted on May 3, 2014

Kicked off the spring season with the first wedding of the year! I take on weddings for a handful of couples every year, and was so grateful to be able to spend the day with these two. Sara and Brendan are all class. A huge day of smiles at the Royal Conservatory. Homemade honey jars, beautiful blooms, gorgeous girls, and light, light light. Seeing people this happy gives you faith in humanity. To the honeymoon- and beyyyyyyyond.

Chasing Ballerinas

Posted on April 16, 2014

The National Ballet School on Jarvis is an absolute gem that I’ve always wanted to be invited into. Fortunately for me – I found myself there with a couple off-duty ballerinas…

We spun, and spun, and spun. And then I dirtied their lovely little ballet shoes by making them walk out into the snow. Worth it?
